Sports Updates

Northowram Fields Cricket Club, that’s the one nearest Westercroft Lane, managed to complete the 2012 season despite the best efforts of the wettest summer anyone could recall. The first and second teams play in the Central Yorkshire Cricket League and ended the season in mid table in the Premier and Third Divisions respectively.
The club prides itself on the number of players recruited locally who play cricket to a good standard for the love of the game. There are ‘senior’ players like Rob Larner and Chris Thompson who played for the club as juniors and now form the nucleus of the first team. Their successors, in due course, are already making their mark. The under eleven team won every match they played during the season and collected the Collinson Cup as well as the Bramleys Junior League title.
The club values its ECB ‘Clubmark’ status and over a hundred junior cricketers of both sexes from five to seventeen join the club each year. All are welcome and all will be given an opportunity to play cricket for the club if they wish to.
The Club also has a Third team who play on Sunday afternoons in the Halifax League. Whilst this is less demanding cricket that the CYCL it enables the club to give junior players experience of the longer form of the game as well as playing with experienced cricketers.
At the other end of the age scale the club is seeking to recruit umpires and committee members. If you love cricket but are too long in the tooth to play then umpiring is a good way to keep in touch, enjoy the game and perhaps be paid for doing so. The club is run by volunteers and parents of young cricketers are encouraged to help out not just on match days but for social events and ‘working parties’.
Our new clubhouse provides a comfortable environment for watching cricket, meeting friends and enjoying a ‘cricket tea’. The new season begins in April 2013; whatever your interest you will be welcome as will some dry weather and sunshine.

Junior cricket competition, Sunday June 26th 2011.

The new Northowram Fields CC and Northowram Junior Football Club, jointly known as Northowram Community Sports & Activity Club, or NCSAC held one of its first major events since opening its doors. A Junior cricket competition was held on Sunday June 26th. Not only was it a great day for the weather but a fantastic day for the 100's of young ones who turned out to play in the competitions supported by family, friends and many onlookers. Over the wall Northowram Hedgetop Cricket Club facilites and field was also packed with young players.

The new venue certainly made it far easier to hold an event of this size as the facilities were adequate for the numbers allowing catering and drinks on this exceptional sunny day. The organisers must have been proud to see their long term goal of the completion of the new pavillion to help in the promotion of sport within the village area. Well done to them for the effort and endevour to pull this off.

If you require any more details please contact Club Development Officer Mr Chris Thompson on 07908 252938. The facilities can be hired for parties or functions. (see images below).
